Numerical Methods form an integral part of the mathematical background required for students of Mathematics, Science and Engineering. This book, Numerical Methods, is an extension of four long experience of teaching this subject to various courses. The invaluable experience of using computer based numerical techniques for research and a project has helped value add to this book. Clarity and utility has been our constant goal. We have especially designed this book to achieve this objective. A vast number of solved examples followed by properly graded problems have been provided. Many examples and problems have been selected from recent question papers of various University and Engineering examinations. Dr V N Vedamurthy recently retired as Principal of Vellore Engineering College, Vellore. An educationist all his life, he has had a long academic career of 28 years at the Anna University, Guindy. He taught subjects such as Industrial Management, Heat Transfer, Computational Methods, Cryogenic Engineering apart from guiding research projects on Fluidized Beds, Solar Energy and so on. Dr. Vedamurthy has worked on a number of consultancy projects in the areas of Boiler Technology and Energy management. Dr N Ch S N Iyengar is Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Vellore Engineering College, Vellore. After completing his MSc and PhD from REC Warangal, he joined the Deccan College of Engineering, Hyderabad. A prolific writer, Dr. Iyengar has 13 books and numerous published articles to his credit. His areas of specialization include Fluid Dynamics, Numerical Methods, Discrete Mathematics and Biomathematics.
